Origin

Sueca cames from Protugal, but it is also a popular game in Brasil. It is very similar to Tute, but rules are easier to learn.

Description

Sueca is played with the English card deck.

Four players (two pairs of players) take part in the game.

If you already know the rules of Tute, you will learn quickly to play Sueca by reading directly the differences between both games

Objective

The main objective is to reach 4 points before the opponents; and the objective in every hand is to get the highest amount of points with the cards taken through all the tricks.

The hierarchy between cards of the same suit in order to determine the winner of the trick goes, from the highest to the lowest, as follows: Ace, Seven, King, Jack, Queen, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two. Between different suits, this is the order: the highest are the trumps, next the opening suit in the trick, and finally the other two suits can´t be used to win the trick.

How the game goes on

Start of the game and each of the hands

At the start of every hand the player at the right of the dealer must cut the pack; all the cards of the pack are dealt one by one between the four players, and finally the last card received by the dealer is shown to all the players, since the trumps are set by that card.

In every hand all the cards are played once. In every trick all the players throw one card; always one of the players wins the trick and takes thrown cards.

Playing the cards

The leader may throw any card; the other players, from left to right, throw each one card complying with the following rules:

  • Obligation to assist: if possible, the player who has the turn must assist throwing a card of the opening suit.
  • If it is not possible to assist, any card may be used.
  • The player who has thrown the highest card according to the above mentioned hierarchy will take the trick.
  • The player who wins the trick will open the next trick.

Scoring the tricks

After playing all the cards, the score got by every player is counted.

Scores are counted in pairs of players.

The total amount of points added by all the cards in the pack is 120.

The winner pair (the pair who reaches an score higher than 60) gets one point. If the score is higher than 90, they get two point. If they get the all the cards, they win the whole game. If both pairs get 60 points, nobody gets nothing.

End of the game

The game ends when one of the pairs gets at least 4 points.

Differences with tute

If you also play Tute, it will be very easy to learn sueca. Besides the appearance (card deck,...), these are the differences:

  • The hierarchy is changed between J and Q (J is higher than Q).
  • The 7 takes the place of the 3. It is the second more valuable card, afeter the Ace, and its value is 10 points.
  • The only obligation is to assist the starting card in every trick.
  • No canticles.
  • Scoring: 1 point between 61 and 90; 2 points between 91 and 119; the whole game (4 points) for winning all the tricks in the hand.
